Class 15

 Welcome to Class 13!
And yet another really exciting week!

Maths
We have been revisiting fractions this week, adding them and subtracting them and thinking about fractions of amounts and having a go at some word questions which have fractions or percentages in them.

English
In our English lessons we have continued studying the book Dolphin Boy by Michael Morpurgo and Michael Foreman.  It tells the story of a dolphin that gets stuck on the beach in a seaside town and is then rescued by the people of the town.  We have been writing a newspaper report about a particular point in the story.  We discussed how a newspaper report is written with headlines and quotations.

Sharing Assembly
It was our sharing assembly on Thursday.  Thank you to those people that were able to come and watch us.  We spent some time this week preparing what we would say and having a rehearsal.  It was great to relive those memories of St. Ives. and we enjoyed singing some of our camp fire songs again.

Pottery
We are having a go at making a pot in our new kiln this week with two of the teachers that some of our class met in Hungary.  The children enjoyed making pots so much whilst they were in Hungary that we now have our own kiln in school. Here are some of the results.

Topic- Noyes Fludde

The children have continued their rehearsals for Noye's Fludde.  We have had rehearsals with Charles Hazelwood, the conductor and the main singers in the cast this week.  We heard Noah and Mrs Noah and their children all singing their parts of the opera.  It was amazing to hear these trained singers and their operatic voices!  We sung some of our parts in too and we are seeing how it will all fit together.  It is getting very exciting now!

Routines and Reminders

  • This term outdoor sports is on Mondays and Thursdays. Please make sure children have their kits in school, including hair bands and water bottles, and earrings are taken out on these days.
  • Spellings and times tables will be sent home on a Wednesday and will be tested on a Monday.
  • Your child is now bringing home reading books. They are able to change their books any day, and their reading records will be signed for the week on Fridays. Please remember to send these in to school. Regular reading is an important part of your child's learning.
